@DmonHiro e.g. in ep05, if viewpoint moves left-right, bottom half of the picture goes behind top half. You can't see this on screenshots comparison.

Give an exact time in the file, not a generic "episode 5", if you want people to see for themselves.

@Spc_away I see the odd ghosting from the de-interlacing but nothing like you're talking about. Maybe your PC is having issues with x265 playback?

It's an effect made by frame transitions. E.g. EP05 at 10:04-10:07. There are sequences: 3 frames are sharp, 1 frame is transition. It makes picture lagging. Depending on content, picture is visually lagging fully or partially. In a-s rip, there are 3 transition frames per 1 sharp frame. So it looks somehow steady (as it could be for such source).

Ahhh, I understand what you mean now. That's the result of deinterlacing. You're right that it's a bit more noticeable on this encode then on a-s, but at the same time, a-s has instanced where it's more noticeable then on this one. It's because of the damn interlaced video on the DVD.

After further investigation, I am siding with Spc_away. The problem with the panning is super distracting. I just wish the a-s version wasn't cropped. I can't believe I'm considering keeping my old L-E version. That one has good pans and isn't cropped... but it's so old it has a lot of artifacts.

Ah that is from the telecine. Ideally, it should be 4 clean frames and no interlaced ones. Not much you can do about it since old NTSC broadcasts were 29.970fps and the software doesn't always get it right when correcting the frame rate. Maybe someday we'll get a proper remaster from the film source.

Dude you can't deinterlace these old shows. It is the same with slayers gto and orphen. Your encode of orphen is particularly disastrous because frames are blended and unwatchable. The only way those shows and this one could be encoded is by leaving them interlaced, 480i or 1080i. I mean you can encode AVC MBAFF leaving frames untouched. Another option is to convert frame rate to 59.94fps but that is way difficult than leaving it interlaced.

Does this encode have any visible difference when compared with exiled-destiny's encode? I checked them my self and I couldn't tell the difference. Does anybody find an improvement from exiled destiny? Maybe my eyes aren't that good?

@toktok it is a bad encode, frames are blended, you will get eye cancer if you watch this encode. The encoder should encode again bobbing and leaving it 59.94fps.

Full Throttle soon?

I'm a bit late to the party, but hear me out. The sxales encode seems fairly close to the r2j dvd and it's pretty decent. However, I would recommend getting the release by Simu (418696). Exiled-destiny's release is r1, so the colors are slightly off and a little washed out when compared to the r2j dvd (a bit of a greenish tinge and too bright) and it's also blurry. The a-s release has the exact same coloring as exiled-destiny's and it's the same kind of blurry. As far as I can tell, both use the same source material. As for Simu's release, it has different colors from both the r2j and the r1 release, but it doesn't seem to be too off in terms of color balance. The colors are slightly brighter, without feeling washed out. The lines look more crisp, which seems to improve image quality, making it look somewhat clearer. It also doesn't suffer from the de-interlacing effect where some straight lines look like stairs, particularly during panning. In my opinion, it's easier on the eyes and looks better than most other offerings, even though it can still be considered a compromise when compared to a raw uncompressed r2j. I have no idea what the source for Simu's release is, neither if this visual clarity is the result of filters or something else. What puzzles me the most is why that one is being ignored despite its excellent encoding. The subtitles from 1729932 fit it well. It also includes season 2 and the ovas and specials, but you'll have to dig up english subs for those. By the way, on the subject of interlaced video in old releases, I've seen some people manage to do excellent deinterlacing with almost no issue. [km] (kuramori) and [DarkDream] in particular come to mind. It might be a lost art at this point though.
