Es ist friedlich seit Lina Inverse und ihre Freunde Gavv den Chaos-Drachen besiegt haben. Aber der Schein trügt. Durch den Tod von Gavv ist die magische Barriere verschwunden! So kann man auch wieder über die Grenzen hinaus zu anderen Ländern reisen. Aber dadurch droht auch wieder neue Gefahr! Philia, ein Mitglied des Rates der goldenen Drachen, kommt nach Sailoon, wo sich Lina gerade aufhält und erzählt ihr, dass ein böses Unheil herannaht. Dies wurde von dem Rat der goldenen Drachen prophezeit. Lina will den Auftrag erst gar nicht annehmen. Sollen doch andere diese Aufgabe übernehmen. Aber Philia hatte einen Brief von Linas Schwester, in dem drin steht, dass sie den Auftrag gefälligst annehmen soll. Nun, um nicht von ihrer Schwester Ärger zu bekommen, nimmt Lina den Auftrag wohl oder übel an. So machen sich Lina, Gourry, Zelgardis, Amelia und Philia auf den Weg, um einmal wieder die Welt zu retten. Das Unglück lässt auch nicht lange auf sich warten, denn sie treffen recht schnell auf Valgarv, der an Lina Rache nehmen will und an ihren Freunden, weil sie seinen Meister und Lebensretter Gavv getötet haben. Dann taucht auch noch ein Riese Namens Almyce auf, der aus einer anderen Dimension kommt und Gourrys Lichtschwert haben möchte. Mit diesem und vier weiteren Waffen will er den schwarzen Stern, einen bösen und mächtigen Dämon, der aus einer fremden Welt kommt, beschwören und aus seinem magischen Gefängnis befreien. Aber warum?
