Why is Fern so fat?

It's definitely overrated but it's not outright bad. For me it's the little things that really yank me out of the moment. Like the hyper perfect burger, yet we see something more rustic like bug-nibbled cabbage in the prior episode (which is realistic). Then we saw a street scene of market stalls and one of the sellers has axes for sale. There's a western axe buried in a stump and then several very asian-styled hatches next to it. It's just disorienting when I see conflicting themes like that and pulls me out of the immersion. I would call Delicious in Dungeon a better anime

madhouse made a nice comeback with kyuuketsuki sugu shinu, but then the western cult that loves slop went watching sonny boy and takt op destiny... now madhouse knows their fans don't like moe anime but they prefer deep slop although chi was good for a while, its ending that it should have gotten is not even animated, it's text on a black background.. chi was arguably good because it was actually made for mainstream adult viewers on NHK, not for weebs. sadly the industry is kinda getting crushed atm and it's close to impossible to truly deliver on a project, especially when you have so many plates to spin like madhouse do. same shit's happening in my industry so I relate. gets me mad ngl.

btw @rowan what you're seeing with those inconsistencies is the result of a million artists having no idea what they're actually working on except the handful of frames or scene objects they have been assigned. they draw what they're told to based on at best, a storyboard or matte or whatever, everything else is out of their sight and their hands. mass production in the blind.

damn, I legit would have blamed that on madhouse.I guess I can still blame it on madhouse. we need more anime originals instead of endless off-the-shelf adaptations. the characters in delicious in dungeon are better constructed and have more complexity to them because they aren't chained to manga panels and dialogue bubbles and a mangaka's hikikomori understanding of what it means to live.

don't even need to blame a studio or madhouse or outsourcing, the director is the one who gets the final say and the director for this season and frieren's first season second half (although it was under director saitou, kitagawa tomoyo was episode director) kitagawa tomoya is pretty much a no-name. madhouse thinks frieren does not require the hands of a good director anymore, and they're hella right
