On this trip, our reporter Gow visits the izakaya bars of Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture, enjoying plenty of good sake wine and fresh seafood. As well as being given a hearty welcome from all the bar owners who are fun and friendly, she also enjoys herself talking to the other customers.  
Gow also experiences various izakaya customs including ways to drink Japanese sake wine.  
  
Sumibi-yaki Shiosai  
An izakaya bar in Miroku Yokocho. The rotating irori (fish griller) is an interesting invention of the shop owner.

Guided Evening Tour of Yokocho Alleys  
A guided tour provided by the Hachinohe Tourist Convention Association, visiting the eight yokocho alleys of Hachinohe City. Takes about an hour from 7 pm. Also gives a history of the yokocho alleys and recommends izakaya bars. Costs 1000 yen per person, and reservation is required three days in advance. The guide speaks Japanese only.

Kabushima  
Nesting place of the black-tailed gulls. Possible to watch the birds raise their families from March to early August. There is also a shrine.
